Continuation of road resurfacing in Diep River

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has recommenced resurfacing work along Main Road between De Waal Road and Gabriel Road in Diep River. The first section of the work was done in November 2024, before the builders’ break in December, and resumes today, 13 January 2025, until Friday, 7 February 2025 provided there are no unforeseen delays.

‘The project team is set to continue work from 19:00 to 05:30, Sunday to Friday, to minimise the impact on road users along this busy route during the day. The maintenance work along Main Road is essential to ensure the longevity of this key road, however it is always very important that we consider how best to deliver on the necessary roadworks, while keeping Cape Town moving. We thank residents and business owners for their patience as they can expect some noise during this time,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The purpose of this project is to resurface the roads mentioned above, from the Schaay Road intersection up to Gabriel Road in Plumstead.

Work includes the replacement of damaged or missing kerbs, repainting of retro-reflective line markings, and reinstating traffic signal equipment.

Road users should take note of the partial lane closures or lane reductions during the resurfacing works. However, the road will remain open for daytime traffic between 05:30 and 19:00.
